The following diaries were written by my Great Aunt Flo on my mother's side of the family. They are a wonderful representative of the social history of an upper middle class couple during the early part of the 20th century. I found them to be fascinating, mostly because they were written by someone I had heard my mother speak of many times, but also because they show real insight into the daily lives of a couple who enjoyed traveling. These diaries were written in ink in little date books or notebooks. They were written by the year but sometimes they overlapped or there would be large lapses where nothing was written for several weeks. There are also many times when Flo either didn't have time or anything interesting to say so she would mark the passage with "nothing much happened today" or "nothing". |
